The Third Redemption - Sequel

By Prof. Paul Eidelberg

In my article, “The Third Redemption,” I illustrated Israel’s increasing degradation and humiliation by reviewing the wretched behavior of Israeli governments from Shamir to Sharon. Whereas Shamir failed to quell Arab violence during the first intifada and tacitly recognized the PLO in Madrid, Sharon has not only allowed Arab terrorists to murder more Jews than were killed during the reigns of his predecessors. While Israel is soaking in its own blood Sharon supports a PLO-Palestinian state—the intended result of Oslo!

I then raised the question: “To what further level of degradation and humiliation must Israel descend in this period of the Third Redemption?”

It’s happening before our eyes. Not Sharon, elected by 63% of the people, but Oslo’s genius, Shimon Peres, rejected by 63% of the people, is Israel’s de facto Prime Minister. Sharon has become Peres’ lackey. But inasmuch as Peres has long been Arafat’s lackey, it follows that this villain, whom Sharon called a “liar” and a “murderer,” has become Israel’s de facto Prime Minister! This is why a PLO-Palestinian state appears imminent.

Such a state, established on Jewish soil, would make a mockery of 4,000 years of Jewish history and of God’s covenant with the Jewish people. With such a state on its doorstep, Israel will descend to still lower levels degradation and humiliation, for the Arab appetite for Jewish land and Jewish blood is insatiable. The 200,000 Jews living in Judea and Samaria will be subject to unrelenting Arab violence. They will leave. Many will immigrate to other countries. Arab “refugees” will occupy Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria. There will be no stopping these Arabs from swarming into the forsaken heartland of the Jewish people.

Terrorist attacks will continue against the pathetic remainder of the Jewish state. The more Jews leave, the more Arabs will become Knesset Members, given Israel parliamentary electoral system. The Government, already feeble, will be paralyzed. This and worse loom on the horizon. You will ask: “Is this inevitable? Can anything be done to stop this catastrophe?”

Yes, but first it must be understood that Arafat is Israel’s punishment for failing to translate the miracle of the Six-Day War into a national policy having as its goal a “Greater Israel.” Israel is losing Judea and Samaria because it has never had a government equal to this goal. We must understand why Israel has never had such a government. Why? BECAUSE ISRAEL’S GOVERNMENT IS SO CONSTRUCTED THAT IT CANNOT REPRESENT THE HISTORIC ASPIRATIONS OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE. This is why Israeli governments have been impervious to mass demonstrations against Oslo’s betrayal of those aspirations. Conventional demonstrations will not undo Oslo and prevent a Palestinian state.

To prevent such state, some people will deem it necessary to topple the present government. I ask: “And who will be Israel’s next Prime Minister? Will he abrogate Oslo and destroy the PLO-Palestinian Authority? Even if he were so inclined, would he have a cabinet with enough solidarity and courage to support such a policy? And would this solve the ‘Palestinian problem’—the presence of three million Arabs in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, who have a million kinsmen in Israel represented by thirteen Arab Knesset Members plus a score of Jewish collaborators in that abominable assembly?”

“Do you really think that a mere change in the name of the Prime Minister or of the party in power will solve Israel’s ‘Arab problem’? Do you think that this is all that is wrong with Israel—the character of its Prime Minister or of his party?

“Don’t you realize that the democratic principle of one adult/one vote was a basic cause of Oslo and that this principle, dogmatically applied in Israel, is leading to the demise of the Jewish state? Don’t you know that there is not a single Knesset party that questions this principle, which alone prevents the Knesset from addressing the Arab demographic issue? Besides, don’t you realize that the Knesset is a mere cipher of the Government, indeed, that one-third of the Knesset’s members enter the Government as ministers and deputy ministers? And don’t you know that this Government, regardless of which party is in power, owns or controls most of the country’s assets and resources? And if this were not enough, don’t you know that this democratically elected despotism has the support of Israel’s Supreme Court, which scorns Judaism and the vast majority of the Jewish people of this country?”

“Do you really think you can save Israel while its present political and judicial institutions remain intact? Don’t you see that the present State of Israel is not based on solid Jewish or even solid democratic principles, which is why it must perish if ISRAEL is to survive? Are you willing to join with others with the object of reconstructing this State on truly Jewish democratic foundations? If so, join Yamin Israel and help it form a United Front of extra-parliamentary nationalist groups under a new all-embracing party, one capable of attracting the enormous floating vote in the next election and thus win enough mandates to transform Israel’s political system and save this country from disaster.”
